Crispy and flavourful air fryer pita chips are a simple and delicious snack that’s ready in less than 10 minutes! Whip these up for last-minute entertaining and watch them disappear.

These quick and easy homemade pita chips are perfect for game day, movie night, holidays, and virtually any day of the year.
This was inspired by my baked tortilla chips, and we love it paired with dip, but it’s fantastic on its own as well.

Ingredients + Substitutions
All you need to make air fried pita chips are pitas (I like whole wheat) and a mixture of seasoning.
- Pita: I like whole wheat pita pockets but you may use any variety, including gluten-free brands if needed.
- Aquafaba: To keep these low fat and oil-free, I’m using homemade aquafaba instead of oil. However, if you’re not following an oil-free or low fat diet, you may use olive oil, avocado oil, or your choice.
- Spices: I like flavouring my pita chips with garlic powder, dried parsley, and salt. Or check out the other flavour options in the “variations” section below.
Instructions
(This is a summary with step by step photos, full recipe measurements and instructions are in the recipe card below.)
Start by cutting your pita pockets into 8 triangular wedges. I use a pizza cutter which makes them quick and easy to slice.
Combine the spices with the aquafaba or oil in a small bowl. Then brush the mixture on the tops of your pita wedges. (photo 1)
Arrange the seasoned chips in the basket of your fryer, and air fry until golden. (See the recipe card below for timing + temperature.) (photo 2)
NOTE: The chips do not need to be in a single layer, they can overlap slightly. But don’t stack too many, so work in batches if needed.
Serve your pita chips warm with or without a dip of your choice.
Dip pairings
These pita chips are fantastic as is, but if you’d like to serve them with a dip, here are some of my favourites.
“Cheesy” dips
- Spinach Artichoke Dip
- Vegan Beer Cheese Dip
- Spicy Cauliflower Cheese Sauce
- Nut Free Nacho Cheese Sauce
- Sour Cream + Onion Dip (members only)

- Chili Lime: Skip the aquafaba or oil and use lime juice instead. Then add 1 teaspoon of chili powder, ½ teaspoon of paprika, and ¼ teaspoon of salt.
- Italian seasoning: Use 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, ½ teaspoon of dried parsley, and ¼ teaspoon each of dried oregano and salt.
- Cajun seasoning: Use 1 teaspoon of paprika, ¼ teaspoon of salt, and ⅛ teaspoon each of black pepper, white pepper, onion powder, dried oregano, and cayenne.
- Ranch: Use ½ teaspoon each of dried parsley and dried dill weed, plus ¼ teaspoon each of onion powder, garlic powder, and salt.
- Spicy BBQ: Use 1 teaspoon of paprika, and ¼ teaspoon each of garlic powder, salt, and cayenne pepper.
- Churros: OR make a sweet version with cinnamon sugar. Use 1 teaspoon of coconut sugar and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon.
Equipment
I use a Ninja Foodi 8qt basket-style model. However, like most air-fried recipes, you can make these air fryer pita chips in any model of fryer including toaster oven styles.
As always, different models will cook at different speeds, so make sure to watch your chips carefully and start checking on them around the 3-minute mark.
Can I make them in the oven?
Yes! If you want to bake these instead, just preheat your oven to 375°F/176°C and prepare the pita chips following the same directions below.
Then arrange the wedges on a parchment-lined tray and bake until the desired doneness is reached.
Storage
If you have leftovers, keep them at room temperature in a zip-top bag or sealed container for 2-3 days. However, it’s worth noting that these taste best on the same day they are made.
I don’t recommend freezing these.
Expert Tips
- Different air frying models cook at different speeds. Check on your chips often, starting at the 3-minute mark.
- For softer chips, air fry for approx. 3-4 minutes.
- For crispy chips, air fry for approx. 5-7 minutes.
- No problem for the pita triangles to overlap a bit in your fryer basket. However, don’t completely overlap them. Work in batches, if needed.
- NOTE: Subsequent batches will cook faster.

Theresa Solomon
Just found out this morning we are supposed to go to a family picnic today. Tossed together a cheeseball and made these pita chips while the cheeseball set up in the fridge. OMG… these are so good! I’ve already eaten a few and we haven’t even left for the picnic yet. They will be so good with the cheeseball.

Yay! Thrilled you enjoyed them, Theresa.
