Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make this delicious air fryer tomatoes recipe.
- Tomatoes: I’m using a variety of grape tomatoes, but cherry tomatoes also work well. If you want to use a large variety like roma tomatoes or beefsteak tomatoes, just quarter them, chop, or slice them. (Or leave it whole and increase the cooking time.)
- Balsamic vinegar: For a hint of added sweetness and subtle acid. It also helps distribute all the seasoning.
- Spices: Garlic powder, oregano, salt, and red pepper flakes make the perfect flavour combo. (Or use Italian seasoning with similar results.)
Instructions
(This is a summary with step by step photos, full recipe measurements and instructions are in the recipe card below.)
Add everything to an oven-safe dish that fits inside your air fryer basket. Toss with the seasoning to coat the tomatoes.
Air fry the tomatoes until the skins start to wrinkle, approx. 8-10 minutes, but will vary according to your fryer model.
NOTE: The size of your tomatoes, and the type of fryer you have will affect the cooking time, so keep an eye on the tomatoes while cooking.
Serve them warm in any way you’d enjoy roasted tomatoes.
Equipment
I use a Ninja Foodi 8qt basket-style model. However, like most air-fried recipes, you can make these in any model, including toaster oven styles.
As always, different models will cook at different speeds, so make sure to watch your tomatoes carefully and start checking on them around the 5-minute mark.
Can I make these in the oven?
Yes, of course.
If you don’t have a fryer, you may roast the tomatoes in an oven.
Preheat the oven to 425°F/218°C and line a baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper.
Season the tomatoes and arrange them in a single layer on your tray and roast them for 10-15 minutes, or until the skins are wrinkled.
How to use them
- On toast, bruschetta, or use them to make a caprese salad with vegan mozzarella.
- Use them as a pizza topping with cheese and fresh basil.
- Add them to soups or blend them up for tomato soup.
- Blend them into a pasta sauce and add a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and fresh herbs like parsley and basil.
Storage
These air fryer tomatoes taste best when warm and freshly made. But they also taste great cold from the refrigerator.
Keep them in a sealed container in your fridge for 3-4 days.
Expert Tips
- Experiment with different tomato varieties. You may also use tomato slices for large format ones like beefsteak.
- Different models will cook at different speeds, so make sure to watch your tomatoes carefully and start checking on them around the 5-minute mark.
