Healthy Iced Mochaccino [V+GF+Nut Free]

Here it is, your new favourite summer drink! This might be the tastiest version of any iced coffee I’ve ever had! This iced mochaccino uses healthy, wholesome ingredients, without any refined sugar. Banana and dates sweeten this delicious caffé mocha so you can enjoy this beverage without any guilt attached. Plus, it’s simple to make, and comes together in a just a few minutes. Perfect for your morning pick me up when you’ve got a busy day ahead.

What exactly is a mochaccino?

A mochaccino or mochachino (also known as a caffé latte) is a chocolate flavoured coffee beverage. There are many variations of the drink. Some include chocolate milk, others cocoa powder, or melted chocolate sauce. There’s definitely always coffee included, often times espresso. And some type of dairy (or non dairy) beverage to bring everything together, combined with a sweetener, usually sugar. I’ve also seen versions covered with whipped cream, chocolate shavings and chocolate sauce. So now you’re reading all this and thinking how can this drink possibly be healthy? Read on friends! 🙂

How do you make a healthy mochaccino?

I completely skip all refined sugars in my healthy caffé mocha and use banana and dates to add sweetness. Combine that with soy milk, (or almond or cashew milk if you’re not avoiding nuts) and cocoa powder and instant coffee. I like Nescafé but whatever you have will do the trick! Just add all the ingredients to a blender and process until smooth and creamy. I tried this drink with both frozen banana and fresh banana. The frozen banana will result in a thicker, creamier and colder beverage. However, if you do not have any frozen bananas, and don’t want to wait to freeze one, fresh works as well. Add 1/2 cup of ice cubes if using fresh to make your drink colder. The consistency will be slightly thinner, but will still taste great!

Finally, dust your iced beverage with more cocoa powder or cinnamon if desired, and enjoy cold.

  • Add all the ingredients to your blender and process on high until smooth and creamy. Pour into a glass and dust with additional cocoa powder or cinnamon if desired and enjoy.

Notes

If you do not have a frozen banana handy, you may use a fresh banana and add 1/2 cup ice cubes. This will result in a slightly thinner consistency, but will still taste great.
