Add the sesame seeds to a blender or food processor and process until smooth and creamy. This may take anywhere from 5-10 minutes depending on your equipment.
Once smooth, add the salt and garlic powder if using and process to combine. Serve with all your favourite dishes.
Notes
If you want a deeper flavour, toast your sesame seeds first. You may do this on a lined baking sheet in the oven, or in a large skillet. Turn the seeds often to prevent burning, you just want to toast them until fragrant. For creamier tahini, you may use hulled sesame seeds, and/or add 1-2 tablespoon of a neutral oil.Tahini will keep refrigerated in an air tight container for up to 1 month, possibly longer.
